This type of crane mostly adopts box type and truss structure, and is the most widely used. It can handle various individual items and bulk materials, with a lifting capacity of less than 100 tons and a span ranging from 4 to 39 meters. The working level of ordinary gantry cranes with grabs is relatively high. Ordinary gantry cranes mainly refer to hook, grab, electromagnetic and hoist gantry cranes, and also include semi-gantry cranes.

It is mainly used for hoisting and opening and closing, and can also be used for installation operations. The lifting capacity ranges from 80 to 500 tons, and the span is relatively small, ranging from 8 to 16 meters. The lifting speed is relatively low, ranging from 1 to 5 meters per minute. Although this type of crane is not frequently used for lifting operations, once it is put into use, the workload becomes extremely heavy. Therefore, the working level should be appropriately raised.
It is used for assembling the hull on the slipway and is usually equipped with two hoisting trolleys: one has two main hooks and runs on the track of the flange on the bridge frame; Another one has a main hook and a secondary hook, running on the track at the lower flange of the bridge frame to flip and hoist large sections of the hull. The lifting capacity is generally 100 to 1,500 tons. The span reaches 185 meters. The lifting speed is 2 to 15 meters per minute, and there is also a fine motion speed of 0.1 to 0.5 meters per minute.

Correspondingly, the lifting capacities of 20-foot, 30-foot, and 40-foot long containers are approximately 20 tons, 25 tons, and 30 tons respectively.

Selection of gantry cranes
It complies with the relevant provisions of General Gantry Cranes GB/T 14406-2011 [3] and GB5905-86.
Under normal circumstances, for lifting capacities of less than 50 tons and spans of no more than 35 meters, without special usage requirements, it is advisable to choose the single-girder type. If a large width of the portal legs, a high working speed, or frequent lifting of heavy and long items are required, a double-girder gantry crane is recommended.
Ii. Span and cantilever length
The span of a gantry crane is an important factor affecting the crane's own weight. During the selection process, under the premise of meeting the equipment usage conditions and conforming to the span series standards, the span should be reduced as much as possible.
The principle for determining the track length
(a) It can meet the stability requirements of the portal frame along the direction of the crane track;
(b) The external dimensions of the goods should be able to pass smoothly through the flat steel frame of the outriggers.
Iv. Determination of the spacing dimensions of the gantry crane
During work, there should be a certain space dimension left between the external dimensions of the gantry crane and the goods in the storage yard as well as the transportation vehicle passageways to facilitate loading and unloading operations. When general transport vehicles are loading and unloading within the span, they should maintain a distance of more than 0.7 meters from the door legs. When the lifting gear is not in use, it should be kept at a distance of more than 0.5 meters from the transport vehicle. When the goods pass through the door legs, there should also be a distance of more than 0.5 meters.

Before work
Inspect components such as the brake, hook, steel wire rope and safety devices in accordance with the requirements of the inspection card. If any abnormal phenomenon is found, it should be eliminated first.
2. The operator must confirm that there is no one on the walkway or track before closing the main power supply. When the power circuit breaker is locked or has a warning sign, it should be removed by the original relevant person before the main power supply is closed.
At work
When lifting a heavy object for the first time in each shift (or when the load reaches its maximum weight), the object should be lifted 0.5 meters above the ground and then lowered again to check the performance of the brake. Only after confirming that it is reliable can normal operations be carried out.
2. During operation, the operator should sound the alarm for the following operations as required.

When a crane approaches another crane in the span while traveling.
When lifting heavy objects and approaching people.
3. During operation and running, it should be carried out in accordance with the uniformly prescribed command signals.
4. When a sudden power outage occurs during operation, all controller handles should be set to the "zero" position. Before resuming work, it is necessary to check whether the crane's operation is normal.
5. During normal operation of the crane's main and auxiliary trolleys, it is strictly prohibited to brake and stop the vehicle in reverse. When changing the movement directions of the large and small vehicles, the handle must be placed in the "zero" position to ensure that the mechanism has completely stopped before starting the vehicle in the opposite direction.
For cranes with two hooks, when changing the main and auxiliary hooks or when the heights of the two hooks are close, the main and auxiliary hooks must operate separately to prevent them from colliding.
7. Cranes with two hooks are not allowed to lift two objects simultaneously with both hooks. Adjust the brake of the hoisting mechanism when it is not in operation.
