Gantry crane, commonly known as gantry crane or gantry crane. It is a pictographic term for a gantry crane, which is actually a gantry crane. According to the form of the main beam
Single main beam
The single-girder gantry crane has a simple structure, is convenient to manufacture and install, has a small self-weight, and the main girder is mostly a box-shaped frame structure with off-track. Compared with the double-girder gantry crane, its overall rigidity is slightly weaker. Therefore, when the lifting capacity Q is no more than 50 tons and the span S is no more than 35 meters, this form can be adopted. The legs of single-girder gantry cranes come in two forms: L-shaped and C-shaped. The L-shaped type is easy to manufacture and install, has good force-bearing conditions, and has a relatively small self-weight. However, the space for lifting goods through the outriggers is relatively small. The feet of type C are made in an inclined or curved shape, with the aim of providing a larger lateral space to facilitate the smooth passage of goods through the feet.

It is made of steel plates welded into a box structure, featuring high safety and great rigidity. It is generally used for large-tonnage and super-large-tonnage gantry cranes. The MGhz1200, with a lifting capacity of 1,200 tons, is the largest gantry crane in China, and its main beam adopts a box girder structure. Box girders also have disadvantages such as high cost, heavy self-weight and poor wind resistance.
It generally refers to an "isosceles triangular honeycomb beam", with the end face of the main beam being triangular, honeycomb holes on the inclined web on both sides, and chord rods at the upper and lower parts. Honeycomb beams absorb the characteristics of truss beams and box beams. Compared with truss beams, they have greater rigidity, smaller deflection and higher reliability. However, due to the use of steel plate welding, its self-weight and cost are also slightly higher than those of truss beams. It is suitable for sites or beam yards with frequent use or large lifting capacity. Since this beam type is a patented product, there are relatively few manufacturers.
According to the form of use
1. Ordinary Gantry Crane
Track gantry crane
This type of crane mostly adopts box type and truss structure, and is the most widely used. It can handle various individual items and bulk materials, with a lifting capacity of less than 100 tons and a span ranging from 4 to 39 meters. The working level of ordinary gantry cranes with grabs is relatively high. Ordinary gantry cranes mainly refer to hook, grab, electromagnetic and hoist gantry cranes, and also include semi-gantry cranes.
Ii. Gantry Cranes for Hydropower Stations
It is mainly used for hoisting and opening and closing gates, and can also be used for installation operations. The lifting capacity ranges from 80 to 500 tons, and the span is relatively small, ranging from 8 to 16 meters. The lifting speed is relatively low, ranging from 1 to 5 meters per minute. Although this type of crane is not frequently used for lifting operations, once it is put into use, the workload becomes extremely heavy. Therefore, the working level should be appropriately raised.
Iii. Shipbuilding Gantry Cranes
It is used for assembling the hull on the slipway and is usually equipped with two hoisting trolleys: one has two main hooks and runs on the track of the flange on the bridge frame; Another one has a main hook and a secondary hook, running on the track at the lower flange of the bridge frame to flip and hoist large sections of the hull. The lifting capacity is generally 100 to 1,500 tons. The span reaches 185 meters. The lifting speed is 2 to 15 meters per minute, and there is also a fine motion speed of 0.1 to 0.5 meters per minute.
